Public Description
The COVID-19 pandemic can be said to have ravaged the world in unimaginable ways with thousands of death tolls globally and on human wellbeing. WHO reports show that the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted or halted critical mental health services in 93% of countries worldwide. This necessitates an urgent situational evaluation programme as the world is gradually recovering from the shocks caused by the pandemic to ensure a progressive learning curve on students’ well-being with a focus on the aspect of mental health which has been found to be as important to student lifelong success as their academic achievement. This study aim at developing an assessment programme for evaluating mental well-being as a support service that would enhance the provision of mental health services for enhancing students’ well-being. This study adopts a tri-method design of Utilization-Focused Evaluation Research Model (UFER), Mixed-method Research Design and Development Research (DDR) and you would be involved at the Mixed-method Design stage of the research using the instrument development model variant of exploratory design for developing a well-being scale.

Dear All,
I warmly welcome you to the FARLeaF Virtual Research Environment, which will be used to aid smooth interaction and information sharing during the research. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for signing up for this project and making time for the insightful interview sessions.
Kindly recall that this study aims to develop a computerised adaptive test for evaluating students’ post-COVID 19 mental well-being in a Nigerian and South African University. More information is available on the project information page HERE. The research will be deployed for 7 weeks in two phases: item development and validation (by consultants) and pilot testing (university undergraduates).
The first phase would be deployed in three stages over a five weeks period as follows:
STAGE 1- Onboarding (1st to 15th August 2022): at this stage, one-on-one interview sessions are held with consultants and students to understand the subjective aspect of the construct of mental well-being. Thanks for the insightful sessions, so far. The interviews are recorded and will be available to all from the 15th of August, 2022. This is geared towards having a holistic view of the construct of the study to aid in writing quality items of a mental wellbeing scale. Also, a debriefing session would come up on the 16th of August for cross-fertilisation of ideas and agreement on mental wellbeing sub-domains. Also, a 20-minute training on using FASTTEST, an online platform for item writing and validation, would be facilitated. All consultants are involved at this stage.
STAGE 2- Item Writing (16th to 26th August 2022): at this stage, item writing would commence based on insights from interviews, personal experiences and professional practice using FASTTEST. All commissioned item writers are involved at this stage.
STAGE 3- Item Validation (29th August to 2nd September): at this stage, item validation would commence for face and content validation, which is geared toward ascertaining the extent to which the items measure the construct of mental wellbeing and coverage of all identified sub-domains. All commissioned item validators are involved in this stage.
Pilot testing (2 weeks).
The three stages will be overseen by a team of Quality Assurance experts, the project supervisor and mentor (Prof Henry O. Owolabi and Prof. Tharina Guse respectively) and the Principal Investigator (Jumoke I. Oladele).
I must gratefully reiterate that this project is financed by the Future Africa Institute with funds from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The funds have also been released through my home institution (The University of Ilorin), and processing to access the funds have commenced for prompt remuneration at the end of the first phase of the research.
This platform allows for comments from all team members. Please, also feel free to contact me when necessary on my email addresses (u05186332@up.ac.za; oladele,ji@unilorin.edung or on my Mobile/WhatApp line +2348060226110).
Indeed, I am super excited about carrying out this research and feel privileged to have you all on the research team.
I look forward to leveraging your experience and expertise for productive research engagements.

Dear Profs., and Colleagues,
Good morning to you all, and thank you for making time for the interview sessions and the insightful discussions.
I would be wrapping up the interview sessions today and we would be having a debriefing tomorrow 16/08/2022 by 7 am (WAT). The meeting link has been sent to your emails. Also, find below the shortened link HERE
Based on insights from the interview sessions, I have mapped out sub-constructs for the mental wellbeing scale for joint review during the meeting. I would also facilitate a brief training on the item writing, validation and assessment platform.
Thank you for the corporation received so far. I look forward to a productive session.
